Clean Air Construction was tasked with restoring an entire deck in Mittagong recently. The decking was painted treated pine, which had begun rotting in various places. Worse however were the posts which were rotting and failing, as well as most of the hand rails.

The entire deck was ripped up, and posts replaced. Thankfully for the client, most of the timber subframe remained in good condition, save a few joists that were replaced.

All new decking in Merbau was installed and colour matched decking screws used. Solid Merbau posts (not glue laminated) were also used, as well as solid dressed Merbau timber. Holes to secure the railings to the posts were filled with Merbau timber plugs we created on site.

Additionally, custom Merbau screening was built to replace the aging lattice screening, and finally, the vegie garden adjacent to the bottom deck was clad in Merbau as well to tie everything together.
